Oceanis Collective is a boundary-defying ensemble
that explores music of the here and now;
of our place and our time;
of 21st Century Oceania.
Oceanis (originally known as ‘Timmins and Friends’) is run by Melbourne-based flute player Jennifer Timmins and is made up of contemporary chamber musicians from across Australia and New Zealand. Our mission is to share the music of 21st Century Oceania in inclusive community spaces across Australia, and to support the creation of new work by emerging female composers.
The collective, launched in November 2017, has featured established artists such as pianist Leigh Harrold, cellist Campbell Banks and percussionist Thea Rossen, and has provided development opportunities for students and recent graduates of the Australian National Academy of Music. In 2019, Oceanis embarked on their first regional tour ‘Karakia’, an immersive musical experience inspired by the human voice, with concerts across Victoria and New South Wales, presenting collaborations with members of Ad Lib Collective and Syzygy ensemble, amongst others.
